Biographical Foo
Early Years: Sagittaron
Nicholas Luma was born in Aera Cura, a large Sagittaron city, and was the middle child between two sisters. When he was eight years old his parents divorced, his younger sister fathered by a boyfriend of his mother's that didn't even stick around for the baby's birth. His mother, a factory worker and an alcoholic, died when Nicholas was 15. Together he and his older sister took care of the younger, living together in a tiny apartment in a poor part of town. He joined the military at 18 and served a 4-year tour as an engineer, completing quite a few college credits but not enough for a degree.
On leaving the military, there was still the problem of money for his sisters. The older was working but the younger was still a child, and often sick. Nicholas ran into their father one day partly by accident, a man none of them had seen or heard from in sixteen years. It was no tearful family reunion. Once Nick realised who the man was, he invented a name and a reason to be around him. "Business", it was. After a year of an elaborate scam on his father and the company he ran, Nicholas walked away with over a hundred thousand cubits of his father's money, never telling the elder Luma his real name. Nick left most of the money with his sisters before skipping town.
He moved to the large city of Menema, where he paid for university while working and finished an economics degree. Then an MBA. For him it was almost fun. He had a good flair for showmanship, picking up skills in costuming and makeup from the back stages of the clubs he began working for, doing promotions for them and often dabbling in less than legal business under the table. The limelight made him uncomfortable, never one to try to make his way onstage, but the relationships between the performers and the audience was fascinating to him.
Education
- Sagittaron Public School system
- University of Menema
The Present
Following putting himself through the rest of university Nicholas remained on Sagittaron for some time, working in the live entertainment industry. He had a good flair for showmanship, picking up skills in costuming and makeup from the backstages of the clubs he began working for, doing promotions for them and often dabbling in far less legal business under the table. The limelight made him uncomfortable, never one to try to make his way onstage, but the relationships between the performers and the audience was fascinating to him.
The situation in the city he'd chosen to live in, however, was worsening. Political and terrorist violence was climbing. Though he was able to do fine working in shadier business, when the chance came along to leave Sagittaron, it sounded damn good to him. At 28 he took a job aboard the Destiny cruise liner, doing marketing for their clubs and restaurants. Living among the rich was easy, despite the contempt Nicholas had for them.
Then came the attacks. And then came the Pegasus. Business has never quite been the same.
