Born on the Colony of Sagittaron, Silj's father Nikolai Lakis had been a Master Sergeant during the time of the Tylium wars. She grew up in an atmosphere of distrust. Her mother having died early, she was left with three brothers an a father that saw the Marine Corps as a staple of life. They lived, breathed and died for the Corps. There was nothing else. Having a daughter as the youngest, Nokolai wasn't sure this waif of a girl was going to make anything of herself. His wife had trouble during the birth and the little one came out at less than five pounds. Marta lived for two years after that, but her health was never regained and finally she succumbed to a virus-type influenza going around that sapped her strength and she was unable to fight it off. Nikolai found himself strapped with an infant daughter, three grown sons and a war.
The Marines
Marine Training Camp - Leonis Colony
Training in the Corps wasn't easy, she went through nine weeks of basic and another six weeks of sniper training. She learned how to hide, how to crawl for almost a mile on her stomach and knees. She learned to go thirsty, hungry and to keep focused and she learned how to make a kill shot and move on. If it was one thing she loved doing, that was holding a rifle and getting a perfect shot. By the time she was out of the training Corps, she was on her way with Second Squad, part of Bravo Company.
