Biographical Foo

Olivia is a Lieutenant with the Battlestar Genesis' Air Wing. She served on a the BSG Celestia during her tiger cruise, and then was assigned to the BSG Cassiopeia as part of the border guard on the edge of Colonial/Cylon space. While some viper pilots are known for being hotshots, she's actually got a reputation for reliable flying, making her a coveted wingman.

  • Storytelling and singing. She's popular for providing entertainment to while away the long hours.
  • Sailing, fishing, and swimming.
  • Watching Addie drink marines under the table.

Distinguishing Features

  • Tall, blonde, kinda gorgeous.
  • Aquarian accent. In another time and place it might be described as Australian.
  • Funny walk. She has a kind of rolling gait, like she's on a sailing ship.
  • Curses like a marine. Or a sailor.

  • Callsign: Mermaid. Based on an Aquarian story that Olivia is often requested to tell about a legendary creature who longed to walk on land. Given its aquatic nature and her own Aquarian background, it seemed to fit.

Born and raised on Aquaria, Olivia Kassandros grew up watching her father and brothers go out to sea while she stayed at home with her mother. She found this to be an exceedingly boring lot in life, only made up for by the fact that her grandfather ran a lighthouse some twenty minutes' walk from her home by the shore, and it's there that she'd spend her days. Isaac Kassandros thoroughly indulged his only granddaughter, permitting her to run wild around the lighthouse, and teaching her everything he knew - about sailing, in addition to all the stories of both gods and men, myths, poems, songs and tales of high adventure until eventually she could recite - or more to the point, enact them for herself and for others at local gatherings. She'd frequently sail with him too, and never truely imagined herself living in any way other than by the sea.

When she was seventeen, her Isaac passed away. Olivia was bereft, and it seemed like the old man was everywhere to her. Returning to the lighthouse was painful, and she seemed ill inclined to step out onto a boat once more. She was nearing the end of her secondary education, and toward the end of the year, still uncertain of her direction. A Fleet recruiter came to her school, and on a whim, she took the initial assessment exam. To her surprise, she scored fairly high, and was granted entrance to the Colonial Military Academy on Picon. To her surprise, she was accepted, and quickly put on the fast track to - of all things - officer training and the viper pilot corps. It seems the reflexes and equilibrium that were developed due to years of sailing applied well to flying the sleek craft, and Olivia began to find love in a new element - air, or fair to say, a lack thereof, when it came to vipers. She even developed a certain fondness for the raptors, as they reminded her of the sturdy tugboats that often managed heavy loads in the harbor near her home on Aquaria.

She survived her tiger cruise as well as could be expected, securing her rank of ensign and accepting assignment on board one of the battlestars assigned to routinely patrol the border between Colonial and Cylon space. It was…less than thrilling, but it got her through her the early stages of her career. She'd become a favorite pilot on her ship, perhaps not for being a particularly daring pilot, but for certainly being a reliable one. And it didn't hurt that she knew so many stories and songs - it was certainly a way to pass the hours.

Still, when she was given the rank of Lieutenant in full, she was given the opportunity for a transfer. Accepting a position on board the Genesis, she stepped on board roughly three months before the initial attacks. She'd been hoping for something a little more exciting than her previous tours - and now she's learned to be careful what she wishes for.%r
