The shooting range can hold up to a dozen personnel that are working on their firearms skills. Each booth has a scorecard. Buttons in the booth sends the target down a runner and brings the target back. A locker holds some weaponry and is code locked for Officers and marine NCO's only. Ear and eye gear hang within the booths for protection.

Reed is at a stall already, protective gear on, glasses on his forehead, ear protection around his neck, weapon on the counter, and a stack of training ammo beside the gun. He's looking at the fresh paper target downrange.

Stepping in, running a little late, Ramiro checks out his protection and walks down the line. In offduty gear, his right arm shows a freshly forming scar complete with stitches but alas…no sling. Having checked out some of his own range ammunition, he sets up in the lane next to Major Carter. "Sorry about the wait, Sir, there was a disturbance." He says, nodding to the man. "How's the shooting been coming?"

Reed turns, "Oh, quite alright, Corporal. Nothing too disastrous, I hope?" He looks at the mans arm, free of the sling. "Does this mean you're able to do some firing yourself?" He asks with a light smile.

"Yes indeed, it most definitely does." Ramiro grins, setting his firearm down and checking the weapon. Loading the training ammunition, he double checks his eyeglasses and his ear protectors. "No…nothing too out of the norm, I'd say. We keep it Marine Country the best we can." He smiles. "So lets do this. Watch me fire off a clip, pay attention to how I correct and some of the various things I do with stance and poise, then try to adapt?"

Reed nods, "Indeed, let's. I've been practicing every chance I get, and I feel much more comfortable with the weapon, but I know full well I have a ways to go.

Cocking the gun, Ramiro nods and raises his pistol down the range at the target. Taking a bit longer to show his breathing technique, he waits so that his grip and everything can be assessed. "I never talk or unfocus while I shoot…" He says quietly, closing his mouth and narrowing one of his eyes.

Reed watches the three shots, narrowing his eyes, "Your first shot, was a little off center, you adjusted through your arms, not your hands, and sent the last two dead on. The arm correction, is it easier to make smaller corrections there, instead of the hands?"

"I would say. It's alot easier in my opinion." Ramiro replies, keeping his gun lined up on the shot. "You see the hands droop. You have to take anticipation of the shot in as a factor, as well as the fact that the wrists aren't as stable as the arms are. When you move with your gun, you're twisting your frame and keeping your arms in place." He adds, going quiet and then fires off a few more.

Reed is quiet, watching the next three shots, tilting his head. "You're thinking about correcting now. Overriding your muscle memory. You have good grouping for the last two shots, they'd work into armor." He frowns, scratching his cheek. "I've done that so many times."

Ramiro merely smiles, nodding slowly. Closing his eyes, he takes in a slow breath and releases it. Reopening his eyes, he shakes everything off and unloads the last of his clip.

Reed points, nodding, "Sight shot, correct, then sightshot, correct. That's two doubletaps, right? I want to get the doubletapping down, if possible."

"Single shots before you can doubletap." Ramiro discharges the clip and lets the pistol sit on safe-mode while it cools off. "Remember, if you can't fire one shot accurately, you'll only go wild with two." He replies, motioning for Reed to take a try. "Feel the target, give me three."

Reed takes up his weapon. He HAS been practicing. grip's solid, form's improved, the gun looks more natural for him to hold now. He ejects the clip of standard rounds, takes a clip of training ammo, draws the slide, ensures it's clear, slides the clip home, lets the slide spring back, chambering a round, and takes aim.

Reed fires, first one in the corner, corrects hits into the X-ring left of center, then fires, clipping another corner. He lifts his head, "Major correction, and I didn't hold it." He hrms. "Here, let's try something." He safeties the weapon and sets it down, "If you don't mind my interrupting."

"Good…all three hit but the middle shot was the best of them." Ramiro points out. "Oh no…not at all, be my guest. What's going to make you a good shooter is avoiding the old nasty habits, but also finding what's best for you. After all it's your brain, muscles, and body. You know them better than my teachings could get to you."

Reed steps back. "You're using your gun. Use mine. The CP M57-FA is 50 grams heavier than the standard model. You're never used my weapon. I want -you- to fire off some and get a feel for it, see if you can be more in my shoes."

Ramiro steps out of his lane and moves into position in Reed's lane. Securing the weapon, he hefts it for weight and then lines up the iron sights. "Yeah…is alot heavier, that's for sure." He fires off one round to test his aim, and then proceeds to shoot a few more.

Clicking the safety on, he sets the gun down and returns to his lane. Looking to the upper right hand corner of his eyesockets, he forms some advice. "Allright…see how I went low, then got in the middle, then went low again? Heavy gun like that you've got to size up the weapon first. Second shot was easier after a feel for the gun, but the recoil's an issue. I say pace your shots till you're used to the recoil, but start your aim a little high for the first shot. Squeezing can affect the aim.

Not only is the gun itself heavier, but the underslung ERL module on the weapon further adds to the weight. All balanced beautifully, but the overall weight is still noticeably more than normal models. Reed nods, "One of the things I've learned is the squeeze, I found the trigger sweetspot on my finger after a lot of trial and error, minimal pull of the sights when I pull the trigger. Now, there's three Explosive Simulator Rounds on your right there. Load one into the ERL, and finish the clip." He grins to Ramiro, "And you have six shots left in the clip." The student has been working on many things from the first lesson.

Popping open the ERL module, Ramiro slides in a round and stands back in position. Starting with the explosive module, he then proceeds to time his way through the rest of the clip. Breathing in between shots, he never fires a single round while his torso is taking a breath.

Reed watches the ERL launch with a 'THOOK!' and splatter red all over the target which then gets a nasty collection of holes in it. Reed nods. "Reload ERL and clip, and then lower weapon so I can explain the tactic I'm hoping to master."

Ramiro nods, reloading the ERL and the clip. Pulling back the slide to chamber the round, he leaves the weapon safetied on the firing line. Stepping back, he looks to Major Carter. "Be my guest." He says. "I think I like where this is going."

Reeds face is deathly grim as he looks at Ramiro. "Molecular analysis of Centurion Armor shows high resilliency, with minimal weight. We have seen Centurions that are perfectly vulnerable to normal fire, but I postulate that there is no reason their armor could not be thickened to make a Centurion immune to small arms fire." He stops, looking intently to the Corporal. "You're likely to be getting this information in the future, but I've advised that all Combat units be prepared for heavy ordinance at a moments notice." He takes a breath. "Now. my gun is the FA variant. Address the weapon. The safety switch has three positions, not two. Safe, Semi Auto, Full Auto." He points at the target. "That's a centurion. Unload on full auto. Then switch to the ERL and fire."

"Weaken the armor so that the explosive can further penetrate and take down the Centurion?" Ramiro grins as he takes the pistol up again and reels out a fresh target. "That's one hell of an idea, Major, one I'm interested in." He pauses. "If you can get me and my snipers some weak points, I'd be grateful." He says, going silent before he unleases a full-auto barrage on the fresh target, followed by the ERL shot.

"I forgot how machine pistols can get way ahead of you…" Ramiro replies, setting down the smoking weapon and reeling in the target. Stepping back from the weapon, he admires his handiwork and looks to the Major. "You know, this process can be minimalized if you get teams to train on matching targets." He pauses. "One of us will take a while to end a Centurion. You get pairs on the other hand to use this method we're talking half the time. Best part is, they don't take cover like we do. Instant advantage."

Reed watches the shooting and listens as the Corporal gives his ideas. "Wild little gun, hmm? I really feel the noise with it on my hip." He lifts a palm to Ramiro, "What you're doing now is called, "Spitting the gold." It's jumping from one good idea to the next to the next, without analyzing them. Let's back up." He gestures and moves to retake his weapon, ejecting the clip, and reloading, then loading the ERL with the last Simulator round. "A Centurion with improved armor is only a theory. MY theory, and it's not proven or even seen in combat as accurate. Firing the full auto barrage is only to try to drop the centurion. If it's got better armor, that barrage won't do anything but ping off. If that happens, the good part about this gun is that an explosive that WILL take it out is only a click away."

"Well the explosive is definitely a good idea." Ramiro replies, watching the Major. "Because even if an improved armor Centurion doesn't exist yet, whatever tactic we use we'd be ready for if we ever did meet one. Bullets start to ricochet off of it, we still have a fighting chance." He pauses, looking at the target.

Reed nods, resetting a new target into the slot and sending it back downrange. "That's the tactic I want to get down." He sighs, "And I reserve the right to do so in combat if facing a real Centurion, but for now, tell me about doubletaps."

"Well, also in armor theory, a double tap's going to be another way to penetrate armor. Two quick pistol pulls increases the probability that your first shot is going to weaken, the second will penetrate." Ramiro replies, watching the Major prepare his shot. Reloading his pistol, he motions. "Like this…" He pulls back the slide on his gun and points downrange to a fresh target. "After the third round of fire, typically accuracy will drop. Just aim a little lower to adjust for accuracy…and like so…." He takes a long pause before firing off two double taps.

Reed looks at the firing, and nods, listening as he watches the shooting going on, tilting his head slightly. "Okay is the muscle memory different for the doubletapping?"

"Yes and no. The second shot comes the moment the first shot clears recoil. First shot makes the hole, the second puts a good round through." He pauses. "Line up the shot normally, but this is more an acquired practice. It takes practice, but also timing." He fires off a few more double taps. "Till next week, I want you to fire off a first clip of single shots, then do a clip of double taps, then back again."

Reed nods, listening and watching the shooting, making notes of the differences he can see. "Okay, I'll work on that, and try to get the doubletapping reflex to work." He lifts his gun and starts trying the doubletap.

Reed looks at the doubletap scores, and lifts a brow, nodding, "Hmm.

"Good good…" Ramiro replies, reeling in his target after Reed fires off his double-taps. Reloading his weapon with his service ammunition, he looks to the Major. "One into the armor, the second one through it. See you shots are pretty close together that the stability of the armor in that case would be weakened." He smiles, holstering his pistol. "Keep practicing, you'll get there. In the meantime I've got a unit to put together." He offers a hand to shake, his right one this time. "You're doin great, Major."

Reed safeties and sets down his weapon, turning to shake the hand firmly, "Again, Corporal, thank you, and good luck with your team. Leadership starts with a small group. Remember, this chance for you to assemble a good team is not going to go unnoticed by the brass."

Ramiro smiles wryly. "I know. I'm not letting it scare me too much. We've just got so much work to do. Minimal numbers with sniper experience I may have to train some spotters. So far I do believe I've found three good shooters." He pauses before he turns. "I want to make sure this fleet knows all of its sniper needs for whatever reason are covered. That includes recon."

Reed nods, "You're in a good position to make that happen. Get quality people, and the rest will fall into place. We can talk if you feel you need to, Corporal. Don't hesitate. Clear?"

"Crystal." Ramiro replies, nodding heavily. "I'll have a roster to go over and make my selections from. I know people close but I may need a few pieces of advice reading between the lines." He waves and then turns, heading off back towards his duties.
